I can’t wait to get back to the gym. I’ve barely been in the last two weeks with my hurt foot and I’m tired of couch rest. To be fair, I should have been going this whole time and worked on my arms. I just can’t seem to strength train. It’s just so boring! I’d much rather read magazines while I do cardio.
Although I wasn’t that active, I did have an awesome weekend. Friday night it was back to Duke’s for line dance lessons. I now sort of know about three dances. Not even close to how many they do, but it’s infinitely more fun when I know what I’m doing! It was a fun group with Aubrey, my best friend Tawnya and me.
This picture taught me two things. First, taking photos with Tawnya’s phone doesn’t work when people are moving. And second, I can’t not use my arms while dancing for the life of me. I think I am the only person doing line dances that attempts to do some sort of fist pumping at the same time. I told Aubrey that and he agreed that everyone else kept their arms down. One guy even tucks his hands in his pants every time he dances. I don’t have that ability!
Also, her phone didn’t like the lighting in the bar.
Although I did learn that whipped cream vodka is just about the tastiest thing I’ve ever drank. Why had no one told me about this before? With just a bit of orange juice it tasted like a creamsicle. Delish!
But it wasn’t all line dancing and tasty cocktails this weekend. It was also the birthday party of one special 8-year-old. I mentioned how old I felt on her actual birthday after Christmas. But with how busy the holidays are she celebrated yesterday.
This is Mara and she had a blast at her party. Before the party Aubrey and I arrived to help get everything set up. Which technically means Aubrey blows up balloons while I keep the kids entertained and Tawnya gets the food ready. We started out with coloring.
They weren’t very impressed with my stickman drawing though. I even gave him a caption that said “Hi I’m Stickman!” But, I guess it’s just not that cool. And we quickly moved on to something immensely more fun anyway. Balloons!
I forget just how easily kids are entertained. The balloons provided excitement for way longer than I would have thought. Except, I guess the only thing more exciting than balloons is snow.
I still think it’s funny that I got a picture of all four kids doing the exact same thing at the exact same time. That never happens! But it really wasn’t much snow at all. It didn’t last long and it didn’t stick. I guess it was still pretty though.
After everyone had arrived, it was time for food and then for the birthday girl to open presents. She was beyond ready! Back on her birthday I bought her a shirt and a skirt and she decided to wear her birthday skirt for the day.
But really, we all know present time is just an excuse to let lunch settle until it’s time for dessert. And it truly was the best dessert ever! Apple cinnamon cupcakes.
Tawnya has got her gluten-free/dairy-free baking down to a science now. These were some of the best cupcakes I have ever eaten!
After cupcakes it was time to get our groove on. When I was over on Friday night the kids wanted to have a dance party. So we cranked up the radio and got down. When they wanted to do it again, of course I had to join in!
It was a long, but truly fun day. I always love getting to spend time with all of the best kids I know.
And I totally wish I had more cupcakes.
Did you do anything fun this weekend?

Remember those days in Middle School where we line danced? o.O
Totally! 2 of the dances I know are the ones I learned from back then. Major flashbacks. lol Because I HATED it back then. Actually, to be fair I hated when we had to square dance. So awkward.
I’ve always wanted to learn to line dance. I can’t even draw a line. But it looks like the only dance I might be able to learn.
Oh, and that pic of the kids behind the curtain = ADORABLE! And frameable.
Yeah, I figured if I’m actually going to “learn” to dance it would have to be something “easy” like line dancing. I had no idea how complicated it can be sometimes!
When you are the only one moving your arms you don’t look out of place, you just look like you are really into it.
lol, fist-pumping line dancing FTW!
